MESO-DRAWINGS
INANNA
2000 Four Panels @ 21 inches H x 4.5 inches W
ENHEDUANNA
2000 6.5 inches H x 29.5 inches W
These drawings were inspired by the dynamic animal symbolism
of the "Contests", a favorite motif of Mesopotamian
art. The solar lion, the lunar bull, and the sacrificial horned
animal vigorously engage and contend with each other, manifesting
the eternal vitality of natural forces. They embody the cosmic
dualities of male and female, order and chaos, and creation
and destruction. The sensuous fragmentation and severity of
linear gestures lead the viewers eye to alternately race
and rest across the drawing, continuously moving across the
image. In this way the viewer participates in the aesthetic
energy of the "Contest", and its visualization of
eternal dynamic engagement.
